Also known as Rum Cherry, as the fruit is used to make cherry liquers. Grows to 60 feet. Dense foliage with green loustrous leaves, single white flowers in late May producing black cherries in August. Grows best in rich, deep moist soil. One of the best native American species for its wide geographical range. A good ornamental, turning yellow to red in fall. It has been highly prized for furniture making since colonial times and is an excellent firewood. Fruit provides food for many small animals.
Tree height is about 5 to 5 1/2 feet upon shipping.
