Medium to fast growth to 40 to 50 feet with a spread of 35 to 40 feet. Upright branching pyramidal when young, broad rounded outline as tree matures. Small, showy red flowers and fruits signal the first sign of spring. Attracts wildlife and butterflies. Glossy green, lustrous leaves with light green underside in summer. Fall foliage color is displayed earlier than most maples in brilliant hues of orange-scarlet to bright red. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Will grow in a wide range of soil types. Drought tolerant. This large deciduous shade tree is an excellent source for a lawn specimen or street planting. A dramatic effect can be achieved by planting in groves on spacious planting sites.
