A dense, narrow, pyramidal plant that averages 50 to 60 feet in height with a 20 to 30 feet spread. Specimens do exist that are over 100 feet tall. Dark green, stiff, shiny needles are 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch long. Cones are 1 inch wide and 2 to 4 inches long; purple at first, maturing to brown. Branches get more pendulous with age. Does best in moist, well-drained soil. Excellent for specimen landscape planting due to its elegant, graceful appearance.
