Also called Old Field Birch. This tree is incorrectly named, as its bark is white with triangular white markings. Native to northeastern United States and eastern Canada. Open growth habit to 30 feet. Fall color is yellow. Advantages of the Gray Birch are that it will grow in poor, gravelly soil and in very wet conditions. Also, the branches are quite pliable and will not break from heavy snow, ice or high winds.
