Also known as Rock Oak and Basket Oak. Height and spread to 60 feet. Growth habit is rounded and fairly dense. Leaves are a lustrous dark yellowish-green spring and summer, changing to orange, yellow and brown in fall. Can tolerate poor, dry rocky soil. Can grow to 15 feet in 7 to 10 years. Acorns are rich dark brown with a very sweet taste. Relished by squirrels, deer and other wildlife. Native from sothern Maine to South Carolina.
